Why isn’t The Art-cade Gallery located closer to local malls?
By being a “Destination Point” we can give more individual attention to our customers. Also, our Williamsburg Office Park Suite offers us the opportunity to display artwork and three dimensional objects in a home-like setting to give customers a more realistic look at how a piece of art will look in their home. |

Do you carry works by the classic American illustrators and cartoonists?
The Art-cade has many original paintings and drawings by such famous illustrators as James Montgomery Flagg, Howard Chandler Christy, and Dean Cornwell in stock. The gallery also stocks original comic cartoons by Mort Walker (“Beetle Bailey”), Al Capp (“Lil’ Abner”), Jim Borgman (“Zits”) and many others plus original sports cartoons by Willard Mullin, Bruce Stark, and Dick Dugan, to name a few. We also have sources that can be checked for additional artists in each of these categories. |

I’m trying to locate artwork by my favorite artist. Can you help?
The Art-cade has a large inventory of prints in stock by our featured artists (including Dean Morrissey, James Christensen, and Scott Gustafson). We also have access to many sources to find limited edition prints on the secondary market as well as the primary market. Locating original artwork by a specific artist is possible, but often takes a longer time to accomplish. |

Can you special-order bronzes (for example, by Mark Hopkins or Richard Masloski) from your catalogue?
Bronzes by any of our featured sculptors can be special ordered from the illustrated catalogues we have. Because of space limitations in the gallery, we showcase only a small portion of the editions currently available. |

Can you special-order three-dimensional art (for example, by Bethany Lowe or Dan Grunst) from your catalogue?
Yes. (See preceding answer.) |

Do you carry prints from national publishers?
Yes. The Art-cade is an authorized dealer for both Greenwich Workshop and Mill Pond Press. We can special order any prints available in their catalogues. |

What’s an “automatic” print in publishing terminology?
If you have a favorite artist (and even a favorite number), we will make arrangements for a “standing order” so you receive a copy of each edition of that artist’s prints with your special number (if that is available from the publisher). A free service. |

Are your posters the original ones issued or modern reproductions?
The Art-cade handles only originals of American war and movie posters. Even though there are many reproductions of these famous works of art on the market today, in keeping with our gallery policy we carry only the “real thing.” The condition of all posters in our large inventory can be classified from “fine” to “near mint.” |

Do you sell artwork and posters unframed?
Yes! We have a large supply of unframed artwork, both originals and prints. Oftentimes for collectors, unframed artwork is more convenient to store than framed works. Because of their age and sensitivity to light, vintage posters owned by collectors generally are unframed. |

Can you frame a piece of artwork I own?
No. We only frame items purchased at The Art-cade Gallery. We want to concentrate on finding the best artwork available for our clientele. There are several other galleries in Williamsburg that specialize in framing. |

Can you ship my purchases to me?
Yes, within the United States and by a variety of well-established carriers according to the safest way for a particular piece of art. |

Can bronzes be shipped to me?
Most bronzes can be drop-shipped from the foundry. Shipping times vary but we will try to get an estimated time for you. |

Can artwork be put on layaway?
We can set up a payment plan to fit most budgets, interest free. |

What credit cards do you accept?
We accept MasterCard and Visa. In addition we accept bank checks, travelers’ checks, and of course, cash. |

If I can’t get to Williamsburg in person, can I see an image of works you have for sale that interest me?
Just let us know your e-mail address and the images in which you have an interest and we’ll get them to you quickly via e-mail or regular mail, if you prefer. Check this web site frequently because only a partial listing of available artwork appears at any one time. The Art-cade also frequently receives new works of art. |

How are prices determined for artwork?
Prices for original art are set by the living artist or by recent auctions of other works by that artist. (Even paintings by the same artist can have widely varying values based upon the subject matter; for example, is it typical of the works for which the artist is best known.) Prices for work by deceased artists are determined by the marketplace, especially auctions. Factors such as condition, size, medium, whether a work is signed or unsigned, published or unpublished, and whether it is a study or a finished work are important in determining the value of an original work. Prices of prints are set by the publisher while secondary market prices of prints reflect public demand for a particular image. |

How are prices determined for handcrafted works?
Prices for carvings, bronzes, and soft sculptures such as those by Richard Masloski, Joe Leonard, Dan Grunst, Bethany Lowe, and Betty Padden reflect the time spent in crafting the artwork, limits on quantity produced, and the reputation of the artist. Also materials included, such as antique toys or quilts, have a bearing on the final selling price. |

What artwork is best for investment purposes?
Artwork should be purchased for its personal value to you, not as a potential investment. Like the stock market, values of art increase and decrease according to the economy and demands for an artist’s work at any given time. |

Do you appraise artwork?
No. While we can give a range of values for most artwork we do not make official appraisals. |

Do you take works of art on consignment in your gallery?
It depends on the needs of our current inventory. If a work of art is consistent with the goals of The Art-cade, we would consider taking it on consignment and displaying it in the gallery for a period of time. |

Am I permitted to reproduce any original artwork that I purchase?
When original artwork is purchased the bill of sale does not confer upon the purchaser any copyright or reproduction rights, either expressed or implied. In the case of both original cartoons and illustrations, the actual copyright may be held by the artist, even a publisher, or syndicate. In effect the sale conveys the artwork only, not any associated rights. No copies, photographs, or other reproductions may be made without the express written permission from the copyright holder. |
