LAST WEEK in showroom: THE ART OF DR. SEUSS
Providing fine art for homes, offices, and public places
The Art-cade Gallery of Williamsburg reflects the dream of owners Mickey and Arlene Sego in their love of art and the historic location of Williamsburg, Virginia. The gallery’s emphasis is on moderately priced artwork that tells a story – storytelling art. Nowhere else in this area can you see and purchase such extraordinary artwork for decorating your home or office. A majority of our inventory is one-of-a-kind originals which could give you something no one else has; there is only one original.
Visit our unique art gallery soon. Our current hours are listed on the home page of this website. If you cannot come to Williamsburg we can work with you by phone, fax, or e-mail. We have an inventory of Americana artwork and vintage pieces far too extensive to display here, but we will be more than happy to let you know if we have that work which is “exactly” for you – either for yourself or as a gift. Of course, we ship anywhere in the United States.
Original illustration art in vibrant oils or soft watercolors adorn the walls of this 1200 square foot gallery just two miles from Merchant’s Square of Colonial Williamsburg. Pen and ink drawings by major cartoonists – both classic and contemporary – also are found in this gallery designed to recreate a home setting. The illustration art on display was done for books and magazines throughout the last century, ranging from “Judge” magazine to “TV Guide” to golfing magazines and other sports publications. The cartoons and comic strips originally appeared in newspapers and magazines.
A showroom full of beauty, creativity, and memories
Complementing the original artwork are hand-carved wood sculptures, porcelains, and magnificent bronzes, each telling its own story. For example, “Colonial Elf” by Bethany Lowe, a soft sculpture in Eighteenth Century costume, is an exclusive at The Art-cade and is available in a limited edition of only 25 pieces. The book collection spotlights the theme of the gallery: art, artists, cartoon anthologies, and literary classics illustrated by the masters from the Golden Age of Illustration.
Selected prints and serigraphs from your favorite Greenwich Workshop and Mill Pond Press artists are in stock or readily available from The Art-cade. And for the child in all of us you will find work from the incomparable Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel): hand-pulled serigraphs of images from his creative books plus prints and sculptures from “The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss” – imaginative creatures never before shared with the public.
For those who seek storytelling art reminiscent of this historic Virginia area, The Art-cade features an exclusive series of lithographic prints and canvases entitled “The People of Williamsburg.” These reproductions of watercolor paintings portray a wide array of individuals in their daily routines in Eighteenth Century Virginia.
Gifts of art, gifts of love
The Art-cade Gallery of Williamsburg is not only a source for traditional and unusual fine art, it also is a place where customers can find out about the art and artists represented in the gallery. Special shows and receptions featuring artists are a key part of the educational and sales plan.
